Summary

Deputy Returning Officers at non-technology enabled voting locations (DRO-Non Tech) work at a voting station to determine voters eligibility to vote, register new voters correct voter information, and provide ballots to voters. DROs also count ballots on the last day of voting and report the unofficial results.

Responsibilities:

  • Sets up the polling station
  • Checks voter’s ID provided and issues ballots to eligible electors
  • Registers new voters and fills out forms to change registration details of voters as required
  • Instructs voters on how to mark their ballot
  • Maintains security of the ballot box
  • Reports issues to the Supervisory Deputy Returning Officer or the Returning Officer
  • Conducts the ballot count after polls close and reports results to Returning Office
  • Packs up voting supplies and returns them to the Returning Office after close of voting

Specific Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to resolve issues and communicate solutions
  • Able to follow instructions and checklists and complete repetitive tasks on paper forms
  • Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with the public
  • Able to lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Able to work for long stretches of time (up to 13 hours) and maintain focus

Availability:

  • Available to attend a 4 hour training session provided by Elections SK (period of October 15 to October 19 Early Voting session, October 22 to October 25 Last Day of Voting)
  • Complete 3 hours of online training.
  • Available to work 13 hours on the last day of voting (October 28), OR 13 hours on each of the 5 early voting days (October 22 to October 26)
