October 12, 2024 – A total of 243 candidates across 61 constituencies filed their nomination papers with the Elections Saskatchewan returning office in their constituency by today’s 2 p.m. deadline.
This is up from 236 candidates in the 2020 Provincial Election, but less than the record 268 candidates in the 2016 Provincial Election.
“Nomination day is an exciting one for candidates, and we have 243 people who have met the requirements of running in a provincial election and will have their names appear on the ballots in their constituencies,” says Dr. Michael Boda, Chief Electoral Officer for Saskatchewan. “With the close of nominations today, roughly 1 million ballots will be printed this Thanksgiving weekend and then delivered to the 61 constituency returning offices before Voting Week begins October 22.”

Ballot printing photo/video op in Regina

Roughly 1 million ballots are printed for the general election, which accounts for all the registered voters to date and eligible, but unregistered, voters who show up to register and vote in person.

Vote by Mail and Homebound Voting application deadlines
The deadline to apply for either a vote by mail application or homebound voting is October 19. Voting by mail is a safe, secure, convenient alternative to voting in person. Unlike in systems elsewhere, every voter must apply, provide ID, and be approved to receive a mail-in ballot. As of today, 27,678 vote by mail applications have been approved.
Homebound voting is an option available to any voter unable to leave their home. They can request an election worker to come to their home so they and their caregiver can both case a ballot. These appointments occur during Voting Week.
Voter Information Cards delivered
A total of 801,362 voter information cards have been delivered to registered voters. This number includes 784,300 printed cards entering the Canada Post mail stream on October 7, plus 12,845 electronic voter cards to be delivered by email, and 4,217 voter cards delivered by SMS text message.
These cards detail for each registered voter their voting location options, dates and times. Any eligible voter who did not register early and is not on the voters list can still vote in person, they simply register at the same time they arrive at their voting location.
