Nomination Period Closed
Candidate Nomination Closed
At 2 p.m. today, the candidate nomination period for the three by-elections closed. The list of officially nominated candidates is as follows:
Lumsden-Morse:
• Les Guillemin, Buffalo Party of Saskatchewan
• Kaitlyn Stadnyk, New Democratic Party (N.D.P.)
• Isaiah Hunter, Saskatchewan Green Party
• Blaine McLeod, Saskatchewan Party
• Jon Hromek, Saskatchewan United Party
Regina Coronation Park:
• Noor Burki, New Democratic Party (N.D.P.)
• Olasehinde Ben Adebayo, Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan
• Kendra Anderson, Saskatchewan Green Party
• Riaz Ahmad, Saskatchewan Party
• Reid Hill, Sask Progress
Regina Walsh Acres:
• Jared Clarke, New Democratic Party, Sask. Section
• Rose Buscholl, Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan
• Joseph Reynolds, Saskatchewan Green Party
• Nevin Markwart, Saskatchewan Party
I want to ensure that you are aware that, during by-elections, there is no legislative provision for a candidate who resides outside of the constituency to be added to the voters list or to cast a ballot. This differs from a general election where the candidate as well as their spouse and dependents can vote (and be added to the voters list) under Section 16(5) of The Election Act, 1996. That section of the Act is only applicable during a general election and not during by-elections.
Financial Agent Training
Our team will be offering Financial Agent (formerly business manager) training via Zoom on Thursday, July 27 at 7 p.m. and on Sunday, July 30 at 1 p.m.
While we will reach out directly to all nominated candidates and their financial agents and invite them to register for one of these sessions, I hope that you will reinforce with them how important this training will be. We strongly encourage all financial agents to attend. Chief Official Agents or other party staff are welcome to attend as well. And if a financial agent is unable to attend one of the two scheduled sessions, further dates and times or a one-on-one session can be arranged.
If you would like to attend or if you would like more information or have questions, please contact Aaron Thompson, Director of Finance, at [email protected].
Vote Counting Equipment – Logic and Accuracy Testing
A reminder that logic and accuracy testing for vote counting equipment will take place on Tuesday, August 1 in both Regina and Swift Current. Logic and accuracy testing (L&A testing) confirms that the equipment is operating as expected and that it has been configured correctly. This happens both before voting (pre-L&A testing) and after voting (post-L&A testing).
Pre-L&A testing will be conducted on Tuesday, August 1 beginning at 1 p.m. Vote counting equipment for the three by-elections, with the exception of the equipment that will be used in Swift Current and Herbert, will have pre-L&A testing performed at our Regina returning office (145 Dorothy Street, formerly Dieppe School). Pre-L&A testing for Herbert and Swift Current will be conducted at the Home Inn and Suites (1411 Battleford Trail E) in Swift Current. Registered political parties and candidates (or candidate representatives) are welcome to attend either location.
Vote by Mail Reminder
The deadline for voters to apply to vote by mail is end of day on Tuesday, August 1. Vote by Mail is a good option for voters in these by-elections who are out of town or unavailable during voting week. Over the next few days, I hope that you will continue to encourage your supporters and contacts to consider Vote by Mail as an option.
