Annual RPP Meeting & Pre-Writ Conference

RPP Meeting – “Save the Date” – Tuesday, June 11

I’m happy to tell you that Tuesday, June 11 is the date for our annual meeting of registered political parties and Elections Saskatchewan. We are still confirming location and exact timing but please “save the date.” The meeting will follow our traditional format – in-person sessions during the day followed by a more informal dinner afterwards.

Given that we all have a general election that we are preparing for, I hope that you will be able to attend. We will share more information on what we have planned as it becomes available.

Conference of Saskatchewan Election Officials: Pre-Writ

For an election management body such as Elections Saskatchewan, a successful “Pre-Writ” assignment helps to ensure a successful election. The Pre-Writ is a period of time beginning about six to eight months before the writs of election are issued (after which, we enter the “Writ” period. During the Pre-Writ assignment, our returning officers (ROs) and election clerks (ECs) begin working in their constituency, identifying potential returning office locations, visiting and assessing possible voting locations and gathering information on other sites, such as personal care homes, hospitals, etc.

Before our ROs and ECs can complete this work, they need to be trained on what to look for and what information they need to gather. And for this event, they also need to be trained for the first time on the Saskatchewan Election Management System (SEMS), our new election management system which really will transform our “behind the scenes” administration of this election.

This is all to say that, beginning next week, we are gathering for two sessions of the Conference of Saskatchewan Election Officials: Pre-Writ. Our first session will be held in Saskatoon next week (April 16 – 18) and will include ROs and ECs from the constituencies which will not be using electronic poll books during the next election. The following week (April 23 – 25), we will gather in Regina with the ROs and ECs whose constituencies will use electronic polls books and cover what they will need to do to complete their Pre-Writ work.

I look forward to sharing many of the same details that we will cover at the upcoming conferences with you when we gather in June.

Fiscal Period Returns – April 30, 2024 Deadline

The deadline for each registered political party to file its audited fiscal period return is Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

Unlike election expense returns, fiscal period returns do not have auditor access within ELMS. Returns will need to be provided to your auditor in hard copy or as an electronic file outside of ELMS. If you have questions, please reach out to Aaron Thompson, Director of Finance, at [email protected].

Sincerely,

Dr. Michael Boda
Chief Electoral Officer
Province of Saskatchewan
