Important Reminders & Technical Briefing
Nomination Deadline – 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 12
This will likely be your final reminder from me about the legislated nomination deadline of 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 12.
If any of your candidates have not done so, they should immediately reach out to their constituency returning officer and make an appointment to review the nomination package. The Election Act, 1996 does not give the Chief Electoral Officer authority to provide an extension to the nomination deadline.
The nomination deadline of 2 p.m. on October 12 is also the last opportunity for a candidate who lives outside of the constituency in which they are running to register and vote in that other constituency. The form that facilitates this is part of the nomination package that every candidate must complete. After 2 p.m. on October 12, a candidate will no longer be able to change the constituency in which they will vote.
Sec. 226 Reminder
I want also to offer a final reminder that every registered political party must update (or confirm) the information found in the register of political parties within ten days of the writs of election being issued. This deadline is Friday, October 11 at 5 p.m. This is a requirement for every registered political party within The Election Act, 1996.
The leader or chief official agent of a party must also inform the Chief Electoral Officer as to how they wish the name of the party or its abbreviation (or both) to appear on the ballot and other election documents. This is also an opportunity for your party leader to designate a representative to endorse candidates for the election if they wish to do so.
This notice can be completed using the E-515 “Confirmation of Party Details/Designation of Representatives for an Election Period” form, which can also be found on our website here. Please submit this form to Jennifer Colin ([email protected]).
RPP Technical Briefing
With Voting Week getting close, I’d like to offer you a final technical briefing before voting begins. This briefing will be held over Microsoft Teams and will take less than an hour but will give me and my team a final chance to brief you on what voting and vote counting will look like during this election.
This briefing, for the Chief Official Agent (or designate) of each registered political party, will be held on Thursday, October 17 at 1 p.m. Please RSVP to Bobbee Tarksis at [email protected] before Tuesday, October 15 at 12 noon with the email address that we should use for the meeting invitation. I’m looking forward to speaking with you.
Voter Information Cards (VICs)
A quick note to let you know that Voter Information Cards (VICs) are being printed and mailed this week. The VIC includes all the information a voter needs about where and when they can cast their ballot. The exact date that voters receive their VIC depends on the postal system and when they check their mail, but we expect that some voters should receive them before the upcoming long weekend.
