Candidates

       Nomination

According to The Election Act, 1996 (the "Election Act"), "candidate" means any individual who, after the writ of election in a constituency is issued and before two o'clock p.m. on nomination day (Monday, October 22, 2007), files an official nomination paper with the constituency returning officer.

       Qualifications

To be eligible as a candidate for a provincial election in Saskatchewan, a person must be:

  • at least 18 years of age;
  • a Canadian citizen;
  • ordinarily resident in Saskatchewan for at least six months prior to the issue of the writ of election;
  • not disqualified by The Legislative Assembly and Executive Council Act, 2005 or by any other Act from being a candidate;
  • not disqualified from voting by section 17 of the Election Act; and
  • not disqualified from being a candidate by section 42 of the Election Act.

A candidate's political affiliation will be described in election documents in one of the following three ways:
